Conservation vs. Restoration Conservation may be described as the slowing down and prevention of deterioration of an object; with ceramics this may involve the cleaning and stabilising of objects. Restoration and reconstruction usually involves the complete reassembly of an object, the filling of cracks, chips, reforming or modeling missing pieces, retouching and glazing. A thorough understanding of the history, construction, function, use and value (cultural or financial) of an object will determine the most appropriate approach. We are happy to give advice on the most appropriate approach for your ceramic. |
